Just whatever random thoughts that I get. A lot of it is media stuff, and there's a little social justice but not near enough for me to feel like I'm doing my part but I'm working on that! Also sometimes I feel depressed so there will be angst-filled posts as well sorry. I tend to go through stages with stuff, obsessing over it and then ignoring it for a while so deal with it. And um thanks for stopping by I guess?

Catching Elephant is a theme by Andy Taylor
I’m not saying the Avatar state doesn’t have incredible—and helpful power. But you have to understand, for the people who love you, watching you be in that much rage and pain is really scary.
Sorry but I’m going to feels all over this (not sorry).
But like, just look at Katara’s reactions to all of these and how they exemplify that quote.
In the first one, remember this is her first time seeing him like this. But she doesn’t panic. She tries to talk to him, to get him to calm down- she’s afraid, but she’s mostly keeping a lid on it. She’s worried that he’s going to hurt someone, and with the only people there being the three of them, it would be someone that she cares about and she can’t let that happen. She’s also probably drawing on her own feelings towards the Fire Nation (I can imagine younger!Katara going out into the snow away from the village and just letting out her desperation and desire for revenge in these giant screaming rages or something, because even before she’s been in any kind of real battle she seems to know what she’s talking about with her emotions and empathizing with Aang a little instead of just sympathizing).
And in the second, she’s awestruck. They need a miracle to clear the Fire Nation out of the Northern Water Tribe, and here the Ocean Spirit is possessing Aang through the Avatar State. How could anyone imagine something like that might happen? And all she can probably think is something like “this is absolute power- what are any of us before this? This is something that should not happen but that needs to, and I don’t know how to deal with this.”
The third, she’s desperate, frightened, possibly a little frustrated at herself even though there’s nothing she could do. She was just telling Aang her reservations about the Avatar State, and now here he is, channeling it with all of his protective rage, and it’s because of her. If he winds up hurt, or seriously hurting someone that doesn’t deserve it, how could she deal with that?
The fourth, she knows there’s nothing she can do except let him know that she’s there. Plenty of other people have written about that moment on its own and I can’t get into it as eloquently as them, but it’s about just being a support when there’s nothing else in your power to do and hoping it’s enough.
And finally, in the caves under Ba Sing Se, Aang triggers the Avatar State, but he’s in control. They have that awesome, useful, frightening power, and Aang is tapping into it because he actually wants to, not because his emotions are getting the better of him or something else is controlling him. And she automatically recognizes that this time is different from the others, and that maybe this is Aang making a huge step in his own healing process and emotional journey. All in the middle of a battle.
Basically: memorable lines actually being applicable to the character saying it throughout a show, huzzah!

okay look
we KNOW how this plotline will resolve
Zuko HAS to be Ozai’s son because guess what?
THAT IS THE POINT OF HIS CHARACTER. He has “bad” origins AND “good but mistaken” origins and he’s OVERCOMING THEM. WIPING OUT PART OF THAT DECREASES SOME OF WHAT HE REPRESENTS.
SO STOP WASTING OUR FUCKING TIME.
so….
warriors of kyoshi
suki says “we use our opponent’s force and strength against them”
which i think is a very airbender thing to say for being from (1) a native earthbending avatar who (2) doesn’t take shit
so i have a headcanon now that kyoshi started the kyoshi warriors as like a self-defense thing for the gals because not everyone is lucky enough to be built like her and then realized they were better at fighting than anyone else on the island so was like “okay you guys are in charge now”
i really need to learn that the best way to explain anything to Snowy is through Avatar metaphors
I just went into (what I see as) an actual explanation of the Christian idea of the Trinity
and ze summed it up as “So the Avatar. Spirit of the planet needing human experience.”
yeah pretty much just on a bigger scale.
Should’ve gone to that first.
You know
There’s probs multiple secret passages around the island.
It was probably either so Katara and Aang could go “well the kids think we’re here now let’s sneak off so they really can’t bother us” or “well the kids will think they can explore a bunch of stuff so that gets them out of our hair for a bit.”
They could only bend whatever they were born into. Then, the second one could do what the first could plus their own element, and so on for each of the first four.
Just because each Avatar is stronger than the last because they draw on their past lives; the first ones could only develop the skills as the Avatar spirit learned them over multiple lifetimes.
I AM NOT OKAY WITH THE SEARCH.
THEY’RE GOING TO DO AWFUL THINGS TO AZULA.
urghhh same.
he’s already doing awful things to characters that DIDN’T have arcs that can quickly devolve into traditionally-problematically-handled things and he’s not doing a good job with the ones that have had such, like Zuko and Aang.
I JUST.
GO AWAY GENE YANG.
Look, you right Sokka and Toph beautifully, but everyone else doesn’t come off well. SO PLEASE GIVE THIS TO SOMEONE ELSE.

SEASONS OF BLOOOOOOOD
I’m horrible. :)
Toph: Sup, Twinkletoes?
Aang: Toph. No.
Kuruk: *snickers*
Roku: *hides a smile*
Yangchen: *pats Aang*
Kyoshi: *affectionately punches Toph, thus starting the greatest lady-bromance in the history of ever*
srsly can someone just
YANGCHEN WAS PROBABLY MORE FIERCE THAN KYOSHI
Kyoshi set up the Dai Li and the Kyoshi Warriors and kinda-sorta killed Chin.
BUT
YANGCHEN WAS SO FIERCE THAT NO ONE TRIED TO START SHIT FOR A GENERATION AFTER SHE DIED
KURUK WAS ABLE TO IGNORE HIS DUTIES BECAUSE YANGCHEN DID THEM SO WELL
KYOSHI WAS FOLLOWED BY ROKU WHO HAD TO DEAL WITH SOZIN. I THINK YANGCHEN WAS FIERCER THAN KYOSHI. They’re both awesome but Yangchen was more than likely more of an HBiC than Kyoshi.
if you really think that social justice is bullshit than I will scar your face and exile you from my blog and you will only be able to return and regain your honor by capturing the Avatar for me.
